The National Recreation and Park Association held the National Legislative Forum on Parks and Recreation in Washington, D.C., from March 19-21, 2013. Thanks in part to PlayCore’s generous Titanium-level sponsorship of NRPA in 2013, hundreds of park and recreation professionals and citizen advocates from more than 30 states visited their senators, representatives, and staffers to educate them on the importance of legislation and appropriations related to parks and recreation. Priority issues included Land and Water Conservation Fund appropriations, the Community Parks Revitalization Act, the MAP-21 surface transportation reauthorization, connecting children to nature through well-rounded education opportunities, and keeping park and recreation agencies as eligible recipients for health and wellness grants. A full recap of the Legislative Forum will appear in the April issue.
