Barbara Tulipane, CAE, president and CEO of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s FY19 budget:

“NRPA is deeply concerned by the cuts proposed in President Trump’s FY19 budget. Many of the programs our organization supports are under threat — including the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant program and the 21st Century Community Learning Center program, which provides critical support for afterschool programs.

“The elimination or reduction of these programs is shortsighted and financially irresponsible. Our local government agencies want a reliable, dependable federal partner that supports the groundbreaking work they are doing in communities across the country. This budget is an insult to that good work and should be roundly rejected.

“NRPA urges its members and park advocates everywhere to contact their member of Congress to ensure these programs are protected.”
